Hi All,  October 16th is National Opening Day for AmeriCorps.  While our positions start all year round, AmeriCorps has reserved this Friday as a day where AmeriCorps members all across the country can unite and be sworn in as AmeriCorps members!  Join in the events, by contacting your state commission (or me to get their contact info) or you can just show your support by doing the things outlined in this link:

Hi Sofia. I graduated in December and I have to start making payments for student loans in July. I was wondering if I still qualify for the forbearance and if I do where do I get the form at?

Attn: Members in Michigan:

Each year, the Regional Russ Mawby Signature Service Projects bring hundreds of AmeriCorps members to various Michigan communities for a day of intensive service. By the end of the day, several projects are completed, visibly demonstrating the power of Michigan's AmeriCorps members in action. The 2015 projects include:

  •  Northern MI – May 15th in Gaylord
  • Mid-MI – May 15th in Lansing
  • Flint/Tri-Cities – May 15th in Flint
  • U.P. – May 16th in Marquette
  • West MI – May 15th  in Grand Rapids
  • SE MI – May 16th in Detroit

These projects will look different for each region, but they will all highlight the importance of AmeriCorps and national service. For a brief overview of each of the projects, as well as the registration link and point of contact, go to: We hope you can join us to “get things done” for Michigan!

Great news, it looks like you won't need to do the FBI check anymore.  HR should have sent you an email about it yesterday, but email me directly at if you didn't get that email.

Thanks Sofia. I haven't gotten fingerprinted yet. I just sent an email to asking if I should get them done now and get reimbursed later, or if I should go to a particular fingerprinting service to have them done for free.

Hi Abigail, great question about the fingerprinting cost.  You are definitely not responsible for paying for your fingerprints.  In fact AmeriCorps does not allow it.  If you have been asked to pay for them, you can contact to request a reimbursement.

Now that AmeriCorps is no longer accepting fingerprints from FieldPrint, are interns responsible for paying the cost to get fingerprinted?

This year’s AmeriCorps Week, March 9 – 13, theme is #AmeriCorpsWorks.

As part of AmeriCorps Week, we are inviting you to reserve space on your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts to help us elevate the impact of AmeriCorps.

Below is a day-by-day menu of creative ways you can help us make sure #AmeriCorpsWorks and #IamAmeriCorps are trending during this great week.

  • Monday, March 9 or Tuesday, March 10: Send to action-oriented pictures of your service with a caption describing the location and your contact information. Your photo could help us launch #IamAmeriCorps on Instagram.
  • Wednesday, March 11: Join our contest to help design new AmeriGear! You wore the “A” and might have some good ideas on a new gear item.
  • Thursday, March 12: AmeriCorps VISTA is turning 50 this year; help us design a commemorative poster. Check out Facebook for details.
  • Friday, March 13: Post “Day of the A” photos on the National Service blog (Tumblr) (Friday, March 13).

The theme of this year’s White House Student Film Festival is “The Impact of Giving Back.” Let’s show them how national service gives back by flooding them with entries. Don’t forget to submit your entries before the February 2 deadline.

I hope you're all having a great holiday season! The Portland AmeriCorps Alums will be hosting a holiday party and toy drive this Wednesday, December 10th. If you are in the area you should stop by!

  • Event: Portland AmeriCorps Alums Holiday Party & Toy Drive
  • Date: Wednesday, December 10
  • Time: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Registration:
  • Details: Join fellow AmeriCorps Alums in Portland - and their family & friends - for a fun holiday party! We'll provide food & drinks and a great place to hang out. Bring a friend and a festive attitude. If you want to contribute $5 toward food/drink, that's great too. We will be collecting toys for the Holiday Toy Drive for Foster Kids. All toys will be donated to foster youth in Multnomah County. They are requesting gifts for 5-10 year olds or gift cards for teenagers. All gifts should be unwrapped. Hope to see you there! Please feel free to bring significant others or friends to share in the fun. The more the merrier.
