Hi all-

I just heard from the AmeriCorps folks in DC that there's been a phishing scam out there targeting AmeriCorps members and alums. Be wary of any emails you get claiming to be from AmeriCorps and offering free gift cards. If you receive one of these emails, delete it without replying, opening any attachments, or clicking any links. If you have further questions or concerns, contact the National Service Help Desk.

Below is an example of a suspicious message sent to a member:

Dear <Name>,

On behalf of Americorps Vista - Volunteers In Service To America you have been issued a $1,000 Visa Gift Card free of charge.

Card type: Visa Gift Card

Issued to: <Name>

Issuing branch: Akron, Ohio

Valid until: 08/2015

Please use the following website to claim your card and have it shipped to the address of your choosing:

Go to: www reward2012 com

Note that claims must be made within 48 hours from this email being sent, or the above link will become invalid.

Sincerely, Rachel

Hi Cristina,

I didn't find any groups for the New York area. If you'd like to start one, hover your mouse over the "Conversations" tab on the banner near the top of the site, then click on the "Groups" link. Toward the top of the next page click on the "Add" icon. You can fill out the necessary information on the next page. Good luck!

Hi Americorps,

If anyone is interested in joining, I created a group called "Southern California" for anybody interested in learning about SCA-related activities in socal. Please feel free to join and post stories about your experiences.

Thanks!
