The Student Conservation Association's Online Community
In 2011, ARAMARK launched a Sustainability Internship Program, hosted in partnership with the Student Conservation Association. This program was designed to meet a growing need for employees who have a practical understanding of sustainability plus fundamental business knowledge.
By creating an awareness of the role sustainability can play in all jobs; we drove toward infusing the subject matter across our workforce, as detailed in GreenBiz and during our Twitter Chat. Over 3 years, more than 45 interns led environmental and social initiatives for ARAMARK clients at schools, universities, hospitals, national parks, stadiums, businesses and other locations in the US.
In order to replicate and scale this initiative, we transitioned the program into ARAMARK Campus Recruiting, which develops a diverse talent pipeline for management and leadership positions at ARAMARK. By embedding sustainability knowledge across all positions filled by Campus Recruiting we’re driving towards our enterprise goal of infusing responsibility into all jobs. They have a green roof, composting toilet, composting piles, a bee hive and much more. While the other half got to tour the largest food service composting facility in the US.
