Wow, I can’t believe what a busy and exciting fall this was. I was on the road for 59 days (or 8.5 weeks) , and I traveled through Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, and Missouri, visiting 18 different college campuses, one residential high school, and visiting one conference. That seems incredible now that I have the time to reflect back on it (and to catch up on posting about it!).
Here are a few pictures from my 2nd and 3rd trips…Continue

Hey all! This weekend marked the end of my first official recruiting trip for SCA!
While driving, I was excited to also be doing a little bit of bird watching. (I wouldn’t say I’m a birder, just a bird watcher.) In Wisconsin, I saw wild turkeys, sandhill cranes, red-tailed hawks, and even a bald eagle that swooped across the front of my car on my way from Minnesota (where I was for a wedding) to Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Then in Illinois, I saw more hawks and crows along the road,…Continue

Yesterday kicked off the fall recruiting season (and this past weekend kicked off the fall football season) here in the Midwest. I had a great (and busy) experience at the Job, Internship, and Service Fair at Loyola University Chicago. It was actually my first time back on a college campus since I graduated from my masters program a little over a year ago. Being back on a college campus brought back a lot of great memories, and it was truly inspiring to see how many students at Loyola were…Continue
Over the last two weeks, I visited 4 of the Summer Community Crew sites in Milwaukee, and two of the sites in Chicago. I talked about the different SCA opportunities available to both crew members and crew leaders – school-year Community Crew opportunities, National Crew opportunities, Corps projects, Internships, and other types of Leader positions. And I spent a whole day with the Little Red School House Crew here in Chicago, helping feed the animals at the nature center and helping put up…Continue
This past Friday, I had the opportunity to volunteer alongside a couple of SCA’s Chicago Community Crews in the Little Village Pocket Park on 25th and Keeler (southwest side of Chicago). SCA works with Enlace Chicago to maintain this small but vibrant pocket park. We were joined by a few community members, as well as high school students participating in an internship program with…Continue
This week I traveled to the SCA National Conservation Center (formerly SCA Headquaerters) in Charlestown, NH for some essential training before the fall recruiting season starts.
I’m not sure how many people know this, but this campus was once a farm! I’ve included a few pictures below, including what I’m told used to be the old farmhouse (now the South Building) and the old barns (now the North Building and Green Building).
It’s an absolutely beautiful campus set in the lovely…Continue

SCA is collaborating with Johnson Controls and 80 Detroit teenagers this summer to spiff up the Motor City with native plants, invasive removal, new trails, and new outdoor classrooms. The teens are participating in SCA's Conservation Leadership Corps, learning what it takes to save the planet by working to make their city a greener place to live. Detroit's local CBS news affiliate has caught wind of the…Continue

Well, the National Conference on Volunteering and Service was a great opportunity, both personally and professionally! Met some cool folks, heard some great speakers, and went to some interesting and informative workshop sessions, AND talked up SCA!
It was my first time exhibiting for SCA and a great chance to share my story of how I connected with SCA. The following is a little longer version of what I told people at the conference. If you're up for a good story,…Continue
Hello to all you great folks currently in the Midwest and to all you great folks interested in serving here in the Midwest. I'm excited to be joining SCA as the Great Lakes Recruiting Coordinator. You'll see me around the Chicago area (one of our regional hubs) this summer, and this fall, I'll be traveling to college campuses in IL, IN, IA, KY, MI, MN, MO, OH, and WI. As we get this site up and running, look for more opportunities to interact with me and the other recruiters.
