It was a cold and snowy day at Prescott Farm in Laconia, New Hampshire, but that didn't deter six brave SCA New Hampshire Corps member from making the hour long trek out to the country to spend the day volunteering at their 4th annual winter festival. There is a beautiful 200 year old farm house on the property, and a new passive solar nature center, along with a few miles of trails, a pond, and a bobcat den!

The snow was deep, but the hot chocolate was warm. Armed with name badges and a couple packs of hand warmers, the crew set out to their respective stations.

Lizzie, Shannon, and Barrett were assigned to the fire pit to help children make s'mores and snow sculptures.Liz and Jazmine spent the day helping kids make bird feeders, constellation tubes, and animal tracking books in the craft area in the barn.I was also in the barn, but I was designated the official face painter, since the other face painter never came.

They supplied us with a delicious beef chili which we were all very excited about, given our meat-free status at camp. The day went by quickly and we got to spend some time talking with Camile, one of the coordinators, after we finished cleaning up. She invited us back for maple sugaring in March, and gave us a jar of maple syrup from a few years back, which we quickly squirreled away and labeled (as we are now programed to do after living in a communal environment for over a month). All in all it was a great day and I can't wait to go back again!
